Governance statement

Overview 

The Governing Body conducts its business to take into account of the three roles of the Governing Body as outlined in the Governor’s Handbook: 

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic directions; 

• Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; 

• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent, with benchmarking and best value used at all times. 

The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team with the Governors regularly challenging all areas of their leadership, ensuring the progress of students is paramount. 

The Governing Body also ensure that the school complies fully with statutory Safeguarding Procedures and all staff have signed a declaration to confirm they have read and understood the following; Keeping Children Safe in Education, Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy, Guidance for Safer Working Practice, Whistleblowing Policy, Children Missing Education, Behaviour Policy, Staff Code of Conduct, Online Safety Policy and General Data Protection Policy. 

The Governing Body have also signed a declaration familiarising itself with the same policies as school staff as Governors are aware safeguarding is the responsibility of ALL Governors. The Safeguarding Governor works closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, to ensure all procedures and carried out correctly and the Annual Return and Audits are completed in a timely manner. The Safeguarding Governor asks various safeguarding questions of staff and students throughout the year to ensure their understanding of the contents of statutory policies and procedures in school, and also ensures safeguarding procedures are followed when the recruitment of new staff takes place.
