Bursary 16-19 Application

16-19 Bursary – Academic Year 2024-2025

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome the specific financial barriers to participation they face so they can remain in education.

There are 2 types of 16 to 19 bursaries:

  • Discretionary bursaries which are awarded by the school using policies they set, in line with DfE funding rules.
  • Bursaries for defined vulnerable groups (see below)

Payments for both the vulnerable and discretionary bursary are subject to students meeting standards of our Attendance Policy and their Learning Contract.

Discretionary Bursary: A student may be eligible for this bursary if the household income is less than £26,500 per annum. Any students in receipt of free school meals in Year 11 will automatically be eligible for bursary support but will still need to complete an application form.

Bursary for Vulnerable Groups:  A student may be eligible for this bursary if they fall into one of the following groups:

  • In care
  • Care leavers
  • Receiving Income Support (IS), or Universal Credit (UC) because they are financially supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on you
  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in their own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or UC in their own right

The funds are intended to assist with expenditure that is directly related to school life including transport, study resources, meals while at school, course-related trips, university open days and UCAS applications costs etc.

If you consider that you are eligible to apply for support from the 16-19 bursary, please complete the online form and ensure to include the relevant documentation.

If you require any further assistance please contact the finance office.
